‘I have heard the Music of the Spheres’
‘In choosing to talk about harmony I realise it is going to be very difficult for you to understand me, not intellectually of course, but in depth, with your whole being. For this is not a subject that interests human beings particularly. On the contrary their way of life often involves activities that are far removed from harmony, especially harmony as the Initiates conceive it. But still, try to listen attentively to what I have to say.
If you are really concerned with your own perfection, about fulfilment and final victory you must work for harmony. That is to say you must try to harmonise your being with all the forces of the universe. The power of a spiritual person resides, precisely, in his will to be in harmony with the body of the universe, to climb to the highest summit and live with the life of God Himself.
At the age of sixteen I was snatched from my body and permitted to hear the Harmony of the Spheres. Never have I known anything to equal the intensity and richness of the sensations I experienced. It was so beautiful, so divine that I was afraid; I was afraid of that splendour, for I felt I was dissolving and disintegrating into space.
So I cut short the experience and came back to earth. Now I regret it of course, but at least for a few seconds, I actually experienced it, I actually saw and heard the whole universe vibrating. Heaven gave me the privilege of that experience so that I should have some idea of what Heavenly harmony really is.
Pythagoras and Plato and many other philosophers have talked about this harmony but I wonder how many of them actually experienced it. And today the memory of that experience of that experience is enough to fill my soul, as though nothing else were needed to sustain, strengthen and nourish my spiritual life.
Yes, it is enough to know how the universe is put together, to know how it all vibrates in harmony, in accordance with the will of Cosmic Intelligence, from whom every object, every living being has received is own note, its own voice.
I have often heard people expressing astonishment at the unity that characterizes all the lectures I have given you over the years; it is as though everything I said flowed from one central source, for nothing I say ever contradicts what I have said before. Yes, and let me tell you that it is not because of any books I have read that I am able to see this unity so clearly, but because I have heard the Music of the Spheres.’
