– We will understand as we go along.
‘We should not look for irrefutable proof of the immortality of the spirit, of life after death, or the existence of invisible beings, before starting on the spiritual path. We could be waiting a long time – our whole life possibly! And in the meantime, since we won’t be nurturing them, our most precious qualities could remain dormant.

It is like someone in the dark not wanting to switch on the light until it has been explained to them how electricity works – right from the power station to the switch. Or like someone who won’t get into a car until they have seen the engine dismantled and been shown the function and operation of each piece in detail.

When will these people finally switch on the light or get into the car? Wouldn’t it be more sensible if they just pressed the switch or got in? Then they would have all the time in the world to understand how these things work. Well, it is the same with the spiritual life. We have to get down to work; we will understand as we go along.’

Many people today feel the need for some practical methods that will help them to grow spiritually. From the thousands of lectures given by the Master Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov we are fortunate to have many simple and effective, spiritual exercises.

Some concern our everyday life: nutrition, breathing, inner harmony, health, and our relationships with nature and other human beings. Others touch on questions that are more directly spiritual: meditation and prayer, the development of our psychic centres or chakras, the aura, the body of glory, and so on. All these methods grow out of that immense body of knowledge known as Initiatic Science, the principal goal of which is the coming of the ‘new heaven and new earth’.

‘In the language of initiates, the language of eternal symbols, a “new heaven” means new ideas, a new perception and understanding, a new philosophy; and a “new earth” means a new behaviour, a new way of doing things; in other words, a new way of thinking and a new way of living.

Our heads are in heaven and our feet are on earth. Our feet follow the lead of the head into lands that it has already explored.’

To bring about a new way of thinking and a new way of living, the Master recommended concentrating on just a few practices —four or five to start with—and to use them regularly. This series of posts describes two practices from the Book, A New Earth – Methods, Exercises, Formulas and Prayers.
